A lot of hits are on this album, and with her recently becoming a mother, you can see the self-growth in her lyrics. Overall, I rate the album a four out of five. I think it’s because of how short of an album it is. All of her albums are amazing, but this one didn’t make me feel the same way I felt about the other albums. Out of her albums, I would say this is my second favorite of the three. It’s one of those songs that you will catch yourself dancing in the mirror too, and the backstory for the song is beautiful. I love the jungle like the beat on this song. So, instead of trying to learn each other’s native tongue, they decided to become fluent on an intimate level. The song to conclude the album is “Love Language.” This song tells a story about lovers who are suffering from a language barrier. It gives me that 90s R&B type of vibe when music was about the lyrics and the natural voice. It seems to be about exploring the beginning of a new relationship, comparing her lover to a butterfly, and wanting them to open to her like a butterfly going through a metamorphosis.

The album ended on a soulful note with the two songs “Butterfly” and “Love Language.” “Butterfly” seems to be a personal ballad. I listen to this song at least two or three times a day, to motivate me. This song is so upbeat and has such a positive message.

It’s basically a self-love anthem that reminds people that they shouldn’t let others judge them and that if they can’t accept them for their flaws then they don’t deserve to be a part of their life.Īfter hearing this song for the first time, I automatically added it to my shower playlist. The next song on the album is “Morning Glory.” “Morning Glory” is my personal favorite song on the album. There is just something about the bass drops in this song that makes you want to stunt on an ex that is not even checking on you. This song is a perfect “get over your ex” song. This song is about moving on from a past relationship and showing your ex that the life you’re living now is none of their business. There were other songs on the album as well that went over dealing with relationships such as “feels” and “Nights like this featuring Ty Dolla $ign”.Īnother song that stood out to me was her third song on the album titled, “Nunya featuring rapper Don Kennedy”. This was a great opening song for the album. The song is about trying to keep a relationship together, which is quite relatable.Īccording to her Twitter, she sampled lyrics from Omarion’s 2006 hit “Ice Box.” You can hear that 2000s R&B style sampled within the song. I have never heard of Musiq Soulchild until this song, and from what I’ve heard, he is impressive. The album starts with the song “footsteps featuring Musiq Soulchild”.

I waited for quite some time for her third mixtape, “while we wait,” which came out this past Feb. The songs on that album were mostly bops and I didn’t skip almost any of the songs. I fell in love with her music when she released her second album, “SweetSexySavage” in 2017. I’ve been a fan of Kehlani since I discovered her first mixtape, “You Should be here.” Her music is soothing, chill and it gets you in that thinking mood. If there is one word I could use to describe Kehlani’s music, the word would be bliss.
